George R. R. Martin was born on September 20, 1948. When he was in high school he became interested in comic books, which he began to avidly collect. In the early 1970's, Martin began to write science fiction, getting nominated for both a Hugo Award and a Nebula Award by 1973. He even helped write some of the episodes for The Twilight Zone. In 1991, he started writing his most famous work. That was the year he started to write the A Song of Ice and Fire series. The first book in the series was A Game of Thrones in 1996. It was soon followed by A Clash of Kings in 1998 and A Storm of Swords in 2000. However, the next two volumes took a lot longer. A Feast for Crows did not come out until 2005 and A Dance with Dragons took even longer, not coming out until summer 2011. George R. R. Martin currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife, Parris McBride.
